Vegan pizza is what we all need. Do you agree? I would, if it’s accessible, or better yet, homemade.
These days, there have been many pizza parlors that are not vegan but have made a few options to cater to hungry vegans like me..like you..like us. For instance, Round Table Pizza has several alternatives, such as pizza toppings.
Unfortunately, their pizza dough contains dairy despite the idea that they have veggie toppings to choose from. Well, yes, it’s not good news for vegans because, at Round Table Pizza, vegan pizza is almost non-existent, especially since their crust is non-vegan. But they have a salad, which is great news!
Don’t fret, though. There are a lot of pizza parlors nowadays that we can opt for. But first, let’s find out more about Round Table Pizza.

Round Table Pizza, Time-Honored Recipes
California-native William Larson started Round Table Pizza in December 1959 after serving in the U.S. Navy for four years and a few different jobs. He opened the first Round Table Pizza in Menlo Park, California.
Larson named his pizza parlor after the round redwood tables he made with his father. From there, he created his original pizza crust and recipe, which gained popularity throughout the U.S. Under his leadership, the company grew and expanded to over 200 locations.
Larson died in 2006, and his son Bob stepped in. However, in 2011, Round Table Pizza filed for bankruptcy but retained its ownership after securing its financial obligations.
By 2014, Round Table Pizza signed an agreement to build more parlors in Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and Qatar. After its acquisition by Global Franchise Group in 2017, which closed its seven locations in Dubai, FAT Brands acquired Round Table Pizza in 2021.
In 2019, Round Table Pizza was rebranded with a new logo, including a new motto, “Pizza Royalty,“ and more locations.
To this date, Round Table Pizza has more than 400 locations.

What To Look Out For When Eating Pizza
Meaty and cheesy pizza sounds very tempting. While it does great for our taste buds, the dangers that the ingredients pose aren’t forgiving. Non-vegan pizza is greasy, cholesterol-filled, processed meat, and all things unhealthy.
For instance, pepperoni, a famous pizza topping, is loaded with sodium. A slice of pepperoni pizza at Domino’s already gives you 650 mg of sodium. If you eat another slice, that’s a total of 1,300 mg.
Imagine consuming 1,300 mg of salt in just two medium slices of pizza. How in the world can you get rid of it in just one sitting? That’s huge and very difficult to deal with.
The USDA has warned you to limit your daily sodium intake to 2,300 mg to avoid adverse health issues such as heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, and more. But since we’re vegans here, it’s safe to say that we don’t get as much sodium as our non-vegan counterparts. That’s a fact.
I know that pizza is one of the most versatile snacks or meals one can have, but it’s not just about versatility or the taste itself. It’s also about your health. So, if you’re health-conscious, you would want to avoid eating excessively, especially when these ingredients are involved.
- Cheese. While it’s true that pizza without cheese isn’t really pizza, you might want to consider it if you’re trying to lose weight. Most types of cheese are greasy and are loaded with unsaturated fats, which turn into excess calories.
- Processed Meat (Pepperoni, Bacon, etc.). Processed meat has been classified in the Carcinogen Group, which means it’s been linked to human cancer.
- All-Purpose Flour Dough. This doesn’t give good benefits, really. You can opt for pizza made with whole grain, which is rich in antioxidants, fiber, minerals, proteins, and more.
- Thick Crust. The thicker the pizza, the thicker the calories you get.
To enjoy your pizza without sacrificing the taste, pile up on more veggie toppings, especially those that are rich in fiber and flavonoids. Also, there are many kinds of vegan cheese that you can find in your local grocer. These aren’t filled with fat, which means you’ll save a lot of calories.
Try not to go over 2,000 calories daily, which is recommended by the USDA. Excessive calories can lead to obesity. It’s not cool, right?

Most Nutritious Toppings For Vegan Pizza
Just because it’s vegan doesn’t mean you’re already the healthiest. While vegan pizza is the best option compared to its non-vegan counterpart, it’s still important to carefully choose your ingredients.
Toppings, for instance, are a great way to give your pizza the flavors you need. Well, apart from the pizza sauce, the veggie toppings are key. So, whether you’re eating out or making your own vegan pizza at home, you may want to consider these nutritious toppings.
- Red Peppers, Jalapenos
- Garlic
- Spinach
- Pineapple
- Mushrooms
- Tomatoes
- Onions
- Black Olives
- Vegan Parmesan Cheese or Mozzarella
- Vegan Pepperoni Bits or Imitation Bacon (These can be made from mushrooms, tofu, lentils, and chickpeas, among others).
Stocking up on veggie toppings adds more nutrients to your vegan pizza even without the meat. There are many vegan meat brands that you can buy from your local supermarkets to suit your needs.
Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat are the two of the most famous plant-based meat manufacturers. Consider checking these brands as soon as you decide to make your own vegan pizza at home, especially since there’s no vegan pizza option for us from Round Table Pizza.
The Bottom Line
Round Table Pizza doesn’t have a vegan pizza crust, which means that eating pizza at the restaurant isn’t possible for hungry vegans. However, they have a lot of veggie toppings and salad ingredients alongside their vegan sauces and dressings.
Other than that, pizza isn’t our best option at Round Table Pizza. But the good news is that there are a lot of vegan pizza restaurants in the U.S. that you can opt for. You can check this article about Pizza Ranch, where you can get vegan pizza crust.
What’s important is that you don’t sacrifice your health in exchange for a tasty but unhealthy pizza. For your cheese, consider getting Parmesan or Mozzarella that are vegan-friendly. These two kinds of cheese are the secret to a real vegan pizza with a good score when it comes to its taste and nutrients.
