Pizza King, Good To The Very Edge
With more than 60 years of providing quality pizza and exceptional customer service, Pizza King has been winning with its food offerings to its clients in Indiana and nearby places. Its advertising phrase “Good to the very edge” supports its classic pizza crust, which is virtually flat loaded with sauce, cheese, and toppings to the very edge of the crust itself.
Pizza King is known for its signature ground/chopped pepperoni and sausage toppings, which are spread out over the pizza crust.
Pizza King is an umbrella of Sir Pizza. It was in 1957 when owner Wendell Swartz started its first Pizza King store in Lafayette, Indiana, which is no longer in operation today. In 1965, Wendell’s brother Robert opened another store in Muncie, Indiana, and in 1966, they expanded the pizza chain outside of the state under the chain’s name Sir Pizza with a business partner.
It was Don Schutz, a longtime Pizza King employee, purchased the business in 1966 and has then grown the company dramatically. The pizza chain’s franchise rights have also been sold to other locations in the state of Kentucky, North Carolina, Tennessee, Michigan, South Carolina, Florida, and Pennsylvania.
Pizza King prides itself in producing fresh dough daily and not frozen. The company also gives its franchisees the freedom to be different from the main chain, including how the pizza’s taste differs from the other location. This is because the company has a supply-and-license agreement where the franchisees are only required to buy their core products from Pizza King.
Pizza King Executive Vice President Betty Benjamin said that they consider their franchisees as dealers. Store owners are only required to buy Pizza King’s signature pepperoni and sausage toppings, dough, and cheese. The rest of it depends on every store owner, including how they want to make their spot look as well as their cooking process.
But store owners said that it’s the pizza that keeps customers coming back regardless of how they prepare them. Pizza King’s signature pizza crust and toppings made with fresh dough are what makes the company unique.
Lastly, Pizza King is also active in giving back events in its communities since its inception more than 60 years ago. It also sells different merch in most of its locations.
Pizza King Vegan-Friendly Options
As PIzza King executives said, there are no two stores that are the same. This holds true to its menu and prices that literally vary by location. What’s make this exciting is that almost all stores have veggie pizza offerings.
While there are many online reviews about Pizza King’s vegan alternatives, you still need to confirm with the staff to ensure that these options are prepared vegan-friendly. Modifications such as getting vegan cheese instead of the traditional ones are always possible in most restaurants these days. So, always check with the crew before getting your slice of pizza.
On to the menu that we can possibly ask for modifications, or are served vegan-friendly.

Pasta
It’s worth noting that not all Pizza King stores serve pasta, but if you ever set foot in one of their locations, their pasta dishes are commendable. Most of their pasta offerings are either served with meat or dairy, or a combination of both.
- Spaghetti Alfredo A La Carte. While some Alfredo sauce isn’t vegan-friendly, many spaghetti Alfredo is suitable for vegans too. So, be sure to ask Pizza King about this dish.

How To Veganize Your Ordered Pizza
Since plant-based cheeses aren’t widely used in many pizza parlors, you may find it difficult to order one at your favorite store. But then, vegans always find ways such as getting cheeseless pizza. Why not?
Also, you can always ask for more sauce. It’s usually free in most pizza shops. You can also treat yourself to loads of veggie toppings or even more pineapples if you’re into Hawaiian-style pizza minus the ham.
So, these pizza stores that are PETA-recommended can actually help you out with your vegan choices.
- Papa John’s
- Domino’s
- Little Caesars
- Pizza Hut
